Since we launched TripIt Pro earlier this week, we’ve heard from many travelers outside the US who want to upgrade to TripIt Pro, and are understandably unhappy that they can’t. We wanted to take a minute to explain…
First of all, we want to make sure that our non-US travelers know that we value you just as much as we do our US-based travelers, and we know you travel a lot and would get a lot of utility out of TripIt Pro. It has always been our plan to offer TripIt Pro to you, and we’re really glad to hear that you want it.
There are two main reasons that we aren’t currently able to offer TripIt Pro to travelers who do not have a US billing address and mobile number.
1) Getting travel alerts delivered to non-US mobile numbers is a lot more complex.
2) There are additional steps we need to take before we are able to accept payment from people who live outside the US.
When we launch TripIt Pro to non-US travelers, we plan to offer some form of a charter membership. We don’t know yet when this launch will happen, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.
Also,
please note that for current subscribers, TripIt Pro does work globally today. We are already monitoring itineraries and
flights throughout the world.
We’d like to thank our non-US members not just for your patience, but for your enthusiasm about TripIt Pro. We’re working on making it available to you soon!
I'm not particularly fussed about the SMS features, though linking up with the people who take care of http://bit.ly/rtqLM may be of use to you. Keep in mind you already have a mobile web site, that works fine for me, and you could potentially outsource the communication and do it via twitter.
Similarly, credit cards can at the very least be handled by PayPal who do it all for you.
The thing that I'm interested in is the "inner circle", and that's something that in and of itself doesn't justify the price all that much...

When you say 'charter' members, do you mean those who've been with you some time? I have, but I don't feel like splashing out the money on a Pro account now when I can't get SMS. That said, I'd quite like the "I've been with you since the beginning" discount too :)

Do you plan also a BlackBerry App for TripIt Pro users? For example like "WorldmateLive"?

typical approach to a half launch. Don't send me your spam until you are ready to offer your product to me.

I still feel that it's really 1980s to launch a service with US-only first. Gettting payments from all over the world works with all kinds of credit cards, PayPal, Google Checkout etc., so that hardly can't be a problem.
I see the problem with SMS but apart from that, this makes little sense.
That being said - I love TripIt. =))))

Actually, Paypalo doesn't work all over the world. There are several countries that paypal refuses, including the one I live in -- Georgia.

So i'm a US-based traveler, but i can't quite understand why TripitPro doesn't take my international frequent flyer mile accounts..for example i have Virgin Atlantic Flying Club membership but on the Point Tracker options i could only see Virgin America Elevate. What's the big deal Tripit Pro folks?
