This summer LinkedIn asked TripIt to develop a travel service as part of their new application platform. Since LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network with over 30 million members, we didn’t have to think twice about saying yes. In fact, we’re honored and excited to be the only travel company selected by LinkedIn. Now, after months spent working closely with them, we’re pleased to announce the official launch of TripIt's My Travel application on LinkedIn.
The My Travel application on LinkedIn is directly connected to your TripIt account. The application lets you see where and when your LinkedIn network is traveling. It generates closeness alerts for your LinkedIn colleagues, so you can connect with them while you’re on the road, while they’re on the road, or when you’re attending the same industry event. My Travel also displays your current location, upcoming trips and travel stats on your LinkedIn profile. You can create trips either manually via LinkedIn or by simply emailing your purchase confirmations directly to plans [at] tripit.com as always. If you use either TripIt or LinkedIn, you have to install My Travel and check it out.
Our partnership with LinkedIn is core to our mission to give travelers a home base for all their travel information, no matter where they happen to book. One of the ways we work toward that goal is by continuing to support more travel services (now over 250). Another way is by working with the services and applications travelers love. Our partnership with LinkedIn is a terrific example of how integrating with other highly valued services enhances the experience for everyone. It's just one more great reason to remember to use TripIt every time you travel.
Please visit the LinkedIn Application Directory to install My Travel and let us know what you think.
Defiantly very cool to have opensocial working !
that could be myspace, google etc covered
but how about facebook thats a custom job for the network and although its a pain after getting opensocial working its really worth while I wont use your app on linkedin unless it does facebook as well otherwise is another disconnected website to me...

I have an enhancement request - When I click on the "View Details" button inside a Map section to actually see the map, the expanded view of the map should be saved with my trip details. Currently, every time I visit my trip page, the map view is collapsed.

The app seems to want me to enter my TripIt account details into the site. This seems to be the kind of thing you wouldn't want to be encouraging users to do.
After all, how can they tell the difference between a third party site where it is alright to enter their password and a site where it is not okay? Surely there is a better way to handle this.

the LinkedIn aplication is nice & useful. But I would not want the details (style I will be on AF169 on Dec 4 to Singapour seat 12A etc...) to be avail to anyone. I just want to let know that I will be in SGN from Dec 7 to Dec 12 travelling AirFrance
How can I control that in LinkedIn? On my parsonal page on TripIt all the details are vey welcome and I trying to figure out how to transfer the info on my mobile WM6.1

Thanks for the feedback, "Pinstriped Dude". LinkedIn is TripIt's trusted partner, and its privacy policy and security practices are both robust and highly compatible with TripIt's. The form into which a TripIt user enters his or her username and password while in LinkedIn is actually hosted by TripIt. While it's true that credentials entered on LinkedIn are proxied through LinkedIn's OpenSocial container, the data is only signed and passed off to TripIt's servers for processing. It is not stored by LinkedIn. Bottom line: when you enter your TripIt username and password in the My Travel app, you are sending that data to TripIt.

Spent 3 days trying to connect LinkedIn with TripIt. The trips entered in LinkedIn are not in TripIt. Ended up with multiple accounts. When merged, lost connections. Giving up...

I am hearing that my LinkedIn contacts are being emailed about my itinerary updates. Is there any way that I can limit the number of people that receive this email? Many thanks.

Hi guys,
great work on the LinkedIn integration, I have it up and running now.
I have a question around the "Who's Close" snippet. I am currently getting people located in Hong Kong, even though my home city is listed as Sydney, Australia.
Is this because it only shows people in your network who have signed up to the LinkedIn app?
thanks
Kristi

When will you launch a TripIt app for Facebook?

The My Travel application on LinkedIn is directly connected to your TripIt account. The application lets you see where and when your LinkedIn network is traveling.

Sad to see trips only on LinkedIn, but not i.e. on Facebook. Without a wider spread accross social networking platforms, I won't use it. It's a start, but don't stop there please!

I would like to second jls' question: is there a way to limit the LinkedIn connections that see travel plans?
Posted by: Tom | March 25, 2009 at 02:37 PM
Hi Tom,
If you don't want your LinkedIn connections to see your travel plans, you can make the trip private. Private trips are not visible to any of your connections.
At the moment there is not a way to set preferences on a connection by connection basis.
Thanks,
